D.C. Walking Tour

Today we took a big walking tour of the city. It was such great weather only about 89... ha!
We saw the Christopher Columbus memorial, General Meade Memorial, Lots of cool postal buildings (Jill where all good mail starts).
We went to the National Archives (last time we came it was closed) I loved how the constitution was engraved on the gold doors of the elevators. Annie Kate was really disappointed because you could not see it because it was so faded. I think she thought the one she has on her door is much better.
We then went to Union Station and had lunch. I had no idea how huge this place was. Lots of shops. The ceiling was amazing and the architecture was great.
Out front was the Christopher Columbus memorial. There was a man sitting at the base of it with a Hospital gown on and no underwear, I tried hard to keep him out of the photo.
We then down to the end of the mall and saw the white house. Annie Kate was so excited she has been wanting to go there since we pulled into town. The lawn across from it has the perfect view of the Washington Memorial and we got some great photos of the girls in front of it. especially Caroline running in the sprinkler. We tried to get Sally Jane to take her first steps there, but she remains a sitter and crawler.

It was a great day, but ended on a sad note with Caroline falling and having to go to Walter Reed and get 30 stitches. Dang we should have seen the Military Memorial while we were there!
We love this city!

There are always colorful characters hanging around the Columbus memorial. When I worked at the Senate I would walk by the same lady every day. She sat on the left hand side of the memorial and regardless of the weather, she wore a hat, glasses, a big dress made of some heavy material and had stripes painted on her face, like a tiger. She was always yelling things at the passers by, she scared me half to death.

I'm glad it was only 89 degrees for your outing today, whew. More great photos, I love the one of Caroline running in the sprinklers in front of the Washington Monument--that's priceless. This D.C. blog is such a great idea.

What great photos of your girls. Great art direction. They will love having them when they are older.
