Jefferson Memorial

Today we went to the Jefferson Memorial. We were headed home from Mount Vernon and it was so hot, but we couldn't wait any longer, we have really wanted to get there. It is amazing. The quotes on the wall are wonderful. This was my favorite.
I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."
Is this not so ahead of his time. You can read all the quotes from the memorial here.
The basement below is a wonderful teaching tool for children of who he was. It was so funny Jeff was reading this one wall for about 15 min. and Sally Jane kept kissing him over and over to get his attention. She was so silly today and fun.

It's hard to take in everything when you visit places like that. I have a hard time because I feel overwhelmed. I don't think I've ever stood in one place for 15 minutes so I could read about it, especially when it's so hot!
